Public Safety Announcement

May 9 – 10, 2020

Contact: Sandra Riches, Executive Director, BC AdventureSmart, 604-671-2241, execdirector@adventuresmartbc.ca

Media request welcome.

As we all continue to socialize uniquely in our communities with family, friends and neighbours on our trails and in our parks, we encourage everyone to be prepared for the outdoors.

BC has, unfortunately, recorded a 35% increase in search and rescue incidents from this time last year. Weekends with warmer weather, sunny skies and time to play outside are all about hiking, cycling, paddling, trail running and mountain biking, and incidentally mishaps occur that can be prevented.

“Heading outdoors this weekend?”

BE KIND – be kind to other communities and recreate in your own community. (this helps SAR as well).

BE CALM – be calm on the trails, create space for other users.

BE SAFE – be safe by being prepared for your activities, recreate locally, wear PPE and choose low risk activities.

BE ADVENTURESMART!

Together, our investment in ‘safety’ will make a difference to reduce the number and severity of SAR incidents in British Columbia.
