AdventureSmart is a national outreach program, which started in BC 15 years ago, focusing on outdoor safety education designed to promote personal preparedness, encourage safety outdoor activities while concentrating on search and rescue prevention.  BC has over 1,700 search and rescue incidents annually with 80 SAR groups consisting of 2,500 volunteers responding to those incidents.  BC AdventureSmart increases awareness to help reduce the number and severity of those incidents.

The BC AdventureSmart outreach teams will be working closely with the BC Search and Rescue Association, the 80 SAR groups and 2,500 volunteers, in addition to provincial and national industry partners, supporters and influencers.

Teams will travel throughout the province providing educational presentations/outreach at schools, colleges/universities, corporate retreats, ski hills and at community events, in addition to increasing awareness through traditional and social media streams.  These sessions consist of our packaged programs such as the ‘Snow Safety Education Program‘ and the ‘Survive Outside Program’.

Team members must be willing to travel and work flexible hours including weekends.  Some trips require 3-5 days on the road with vehicle, travel costs, accommodations and meals provided.

Successful candidates will have experience with public speaking, be enthusiastic, experience in creating electronic reports (via Prezi), assist with partnerships, industry networking, relationship building, have professional correspondence, be social savvy and have winter/backcountry outdoor recreation experience. Assets are having Outdoor Recreation Management, Adventure Tourism, Recreation Marketing/Communications diploma/degree/studies.

Must be 19 years of age +, be fully licensed with a BC driver’s licence and provide drivers abstract.

Work term: November 7, 2019 – February 27, 2020              Salary: $850 per wk.
