With the funding announcement in March 2019 by the Province of BC, the British Columbia Search and Rescue Association, in partnership with Emergency Management BC (EMBC) is moving ahead with the implementation of the new support model. The next step with this is the announcement of our new Senior Manager, Dwight Yochim.
Dwight comes with a wealth of experience both with different organizations across British Columbia and the United States, along with an intimate understanding of ground search and rescue in BC. Dwight was an active member and search manager with Coquitlam Search and Rescue for nearly 25 years. During that time, he instructed search and rescue courses with the Justice Institute of BC (JIBC) and was a lead Search Manager for a number of tasks, including some of the largest GSAR responses seen in the province, both in the lower mainland and also across BC. Dwight has 30 years of experience as a change manager for organizations including non-profits and industry.
He is very excited about the future of search and rescue in BC and what the position of Senior Manager signifies. “Search and rescue is my passion and is in my blood. I am looking forward to working with the 80 groups, their dedicated volunteers and the Association at this pivotal and historic time in search and rescue.”
Dwight begins his position mid-September and will be managing the Association’s new office now located in downtown Sidney, BC.
