BC Search and Rescue Regions

BCSARA divides the province of BC into twelve regions. A representative is elected from each region to give voice to issues and communicate with SAR groups. Province wide agencies are included in a separate listing.

Provincial

Provincial groups are those that have expertise that is specialized, or aren't regionally based. There are currently five such groups in BC.

Sea to Sky

The Sea to Sky region includes Vancouver, the third largest city in Canada, its outlying regions, the Whistler corridor and the Sunshine Coast. It has eight SAR groups, and includes the BCSARA head office.

Fraser Valley

The Fraser Valley region starts on the border of Surrey, and covers the entire Fraser Valley to the Coquihalla Summit, south to the US border, and north to the Stein Valley. There are six groups in this region.

South Island

There are seven groups in this region extending from Victoria to Ladysmith

North Island

Vancouver Island from Ladysmith north to Cape Scott contains seven groups.

Okanagan Similkameen

There are five groups in this region which covers the Okanagan valley and the Similkameen river from the border with the South Coast/Fraser Valley regions to the edge of the Columbia River.

Thompson Okanagan

The Thompson Okanagan region covers the Northern Okanagan area from Kamloops to Wells Grey Park. There are seven groups in this region.

West Kootenay

There are eight groups in this mountainous region of Southeastern BC

East Kootenay

There are eight groups in this mountainous region of BC that includes the Rocky Mountain Trench and several National Parks extending to the Alberta border.
