New JIBC SAR Coordinator Announced

Sep 09 2008 - 04:00

We would first like to take this opportunity to thank Dennette Frisby for her great efforts to keep the SAR training moving forward during the past three transitory months.

The JIBC is now pleased to announce the new Coordinator SAR training - Magda Dominik - who has joined the PEP Academy at the JIBC campus in New
Westminster effective September 2, 2008.

When the JIBC posted for the Coordinator SAR training position, we were looking for a credentialed adult educator with knowledge of the curriculum
development process to mentor and support the instructors responsible for delivering JIBC's SAR training.  The successful candidate would focus on
adult education while collaborating with the subject matter experts in the SAR community to provide the high calibre of training the JIBC is known for.
The key responsibilities of this position include coordinating the JIBC SAR training program, working with the instructors, building relationships with
the SAR stakeholders and maintaining the course and instructor materials.

As such, Magda Dominik brings a passion and expertise in designing, developing and facilitating adult learning experiences.  Magda holds a
Masters of Education degree from the University of British Columbia with a focus on adult learning and global change.  She has published and presented
her work on the educational utility of immersive real-world games and has consulted to universities, engineering firms, not-for-profit youth organizations, leadership development companies and alternative schools in their training programs. Magda has traveled extensively, for work and for
pleasure, facilitating workshops for students from Japan, Korea, Ukraine, Indonesia and China and has consulted to teachers on the use of student-relevant approaches in the classroom.  Magda has an enduring interest in people's capacity to act effectively in crisis situations and is thrilled to be joining the JIBC and the SAR community.

We thank you for your continued patience and understanding while we undergo this staffing development.
