Surrey SAR Member Recognized For Her Quick Actions

Jan 30 2008 - 11:00

Imagine you are climbing with a friend. Everything is getting set up and you can't wait to get at the rock. Now imagine that something happens to your climbing partner who is 60 feet above you and you see him falling. He then lands 4 feet away from you. Would you know what to do? Surrey Search and Rescue Member, Stacey Glanville did. Stacey jumped into action and immediately came to the aid of her climbing partner and friend. Knowing that her friend was seriously injured, Stacey got in the zone and started at work. Gathering people from the popular climbing area, Stacey continued to provide care, until members of the BC Ambulance Service arrive. What they don't know as they arrive, is that their patient is also one of them, a part time paramedic, as well as a long-time SAR Volunteer. With the assistance of emergency crews Stacey and her friend are eventually flown to a trauma centre and the advanced care begins. During the BCSARA January meetings this past weekend, the BC Ambulance Service presented Stacey with the BC Ambulance Good Samaritan Award. According to the BCAS: "The Good Samaritan Award is presented by the British Columbia Ambulance Service (BCAS) to individuals who have provided unselfish and humanitarian assistance during a medical emergency." Thanks to Stacey's efforts, her friend, our fellow SAR Volunteer and Paramedic and of course his family have many more years to spend with each other. Stacey was also presented with a Certificate from the BCSARA for her actions. Thanks Stacey and congratulations!
