The Northwest Region has completed its plan for the funds allocated Under the Regional Director’s Discretionary Training Initiative. Seven proposals from five teams were approved. Courses include: Search Manager Software Training, Flat Ice Rescue (2 locations), Hover Exit Training (2 locations) , Swiftwater Rescue Technician, and Joint Team Rope Rescue Training for a total of 107 training spots and a total expenditure of $29,583.33. Training has begun with the SRT course and one of the Flat Ice Rescue courses having been completed so far. This initiative was very well received and has fostered renewed discussion regarding what SAR training consists of and how it is provided.
