The British Columbia Search and Rescue Association (BCSARA), Provincial Emergency Program Air (PEP AIR), and Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue (RCMSAR) wish to honour their volunteer members by establishing a memorial on the grounds of the B.C. Parliament Buildings. The three organizations have formed the Search and Rescue Volunteer Memorial Committee with the purpose of; ‘to establish a memorial for those Search and Rescue (SAR) volunteers in British Columbia who have lost their lives in the line of duty and to honour all that serve.’

SAR Memorial

During a meeting with the Speaker of the legislative Assembly approval in principle was received for the SAR Volunteer Memorial Committee to move ahead with the project. The proposed site is close to the existing memorials for Firefighters, Paramedics and Law Enforcement Officers, and close to the Emergency Services Garden which is being dedicated on April 28th. The approval to proceed is a critical aspect of the project and great news!

Any members of the three organizations, their families, or friends are invited to submit draft designs for the memorial by April 25 2016; for a copy of the design guidelines please contact sarmemorial@bcsara.com .
